Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and professional Security Guard to join our team at the Interfaith Community Shelter, a safe and supportive space for individuals experiencing homelessness. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in maintaining a welcoming and secure environment for guests, staff, and visitors. This position requires strong de-escalation skills, a calm demeanor, and a willingness to receive training in trauma-informed care.

Key Responsibilities:

Monitor the premises to ensure the safety and security of shelter residents, staff, and visitors.
Respond promptly and effectively to incidents, disturbances, or emergencies.
Use de-escalation techniques to manage conflicts and reduce tensions among individuals.
Conduct regular security checks of the facility, including entrances, exits, and common areas.
Enforce shelter policies and rules with empathy and professionalism.
Collaborate with shelter staff to address safety concerns and implement safety plans when necessary.
Document incidents, security breaches, or other concerns accurately and promptly.
Build rapport with residents and create a safe and supportive environment.
Participate in mandatory training on trauma-informed care and other relevant topics.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required.
Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field a plus!
Knowledge of or willingness to learn de-escalation techniques.
Commitment to completing training in trauma-informed care and applying these principles on the job.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
Sensitivity and understanding of issues faced by individuals experiencing homelessness.

Working Conditions:

The role may involve standing or walking for extended periods and exposure to varying weather conditions.
May require evening, overnight, or weekend shifts.

Preferred Skills:

Familiarity with trauma-informed care principles.
Bilingual skills are a plus.
CPR/First Aid/Narcan certification (or willingness to obtain).
