Position Overview
A gallery guard must be observant to keep watch over all artwork displayed within the Off-Site Art Space. This includes being up-to-date on the artist information and background of a current exhibition to be able to inform individuals or groups touring the gallery.
Per the State of Kansas, student employees may hold concurrent appointments not to exceed maximum appointment and hours worked levels. However, concurrent student appointments must be of matching FLSA designation (exempt/salaried or non-exempt/hourly).
Job Description
- 100% A gallery guard must consistently enforce gallery expectations to all visitors. A gallery guard must be responsible and stay attentive in gallery at all times which means keeping the office informed of scheduled arrival, breaks, and departure and must be able to work with indirect supervision Must be able to sit and observe visitors.
Required Qualifications
- Student at the University of Kansas
- Must be able to work a minimum of 4 to 8 hours a week in a combination of days Thursday through Saturday at the Off-Site Art Space located at 924 Delaware St. Gallery hours are Thurs 1-7pm, and Fri and Sat from 1-5pm. (Please provide hours of availability in your application materials)
- During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must:
- have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or
- be preenrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or
- be enrolled in summer session or
- be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/ GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)
