Summary of Position: Under the direction of the Director of Security and supervisory team, the Security Guard’s primary responsibility is to provide a safe and secure environment for all visitors, volunteers and staff of the Palace. This role involves enforcing policies for Palace tours, monitoring activities on Palace grounds, and coordinating facilities and grounds access. Guard against any potential threat to the physical structure and objects inside the structures on the Palace grounds.
Job Responsibilities:
- Follow and enforce all safety protocols
- Monitor security camera systems to detect any suspicious activities
- Patrol grounds and interior of buildings to protect against unauthorized trespassing, theft, vandalism, fire and other hazards to the Palace and its contents.
- Respond to emergencies, such as fire or medical incidents, and report any hazardous conditions.
- Exhibit Protection: Safeguard exhibits from theft, damage, or unauthorized access.
- Visitor Assistance: Provide information and assistance to visitors, including answering questions and assisting with lost-and-found
- Report any suspicious activities to management and authorities as necessary
- Maintain updated knowledge of Palace operations and events to secure access to buildings and grounds
- Ensure vehicular traffic on Palace grounds complies with State and Palace rules and regulations
- Understand State Park regulations and the Palace’s role and reach
- Assist with facilities and Palace events set-up
- Guard critical posts as assigned
- Accurately maintain daily patrol logs, contractors’ visit logs, and any other documentation related to security
- Clear and coherent written reports on reportable incidents and injury reports.
- Directs and controls visitor traffic throughout the palace and surrounding buildings;
· Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Requirements:
· High school diploma or GED required
· Work experience in security, public safety, law enforcement or other related field.
· Valid guard license with the State of Hawai‘i
· First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications
· Flexibility to work varying shifts, hours and days including weekends, special events and emergency situations.
· Excellent public relations skills, physical fitness, strong observational skills, and the ability to handle stressful situations calmly.
General Physical Requirements:
· Ability to climb stairs and ladders
· Ability to run as situations require
· Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
· Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch to reach objects
· Ability to sit, walk, or stand for most of an 8-hour work shift
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.50 - $18.51 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
