The ideal candidate will possess experience in modern security practices, including the use of surveillance camera systems, alarm technologies, and the ability to conduct investigations of potentially criminal activity. The individual will be capable of confidently engaging with local law enforcement and fire officials, contributing to coordinated emergency response efforts, and will be trained to identify indicators of terrorist threats or suspicious behavior.
Proficiency in the FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) is critical. Demonstrate strong leadership qualities, including integrity, confident decision-making, a strong work ethic, and the empathy needed to foster trust and professionalism within diverse teams and community settings.

GENERAL PURPOSE
Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties in patrolling and safeguarding all District, SNWA, SNWS and Springs Preserve buildings, facilities and property against theft, vandalism, fire, illegal entry and other potential threats; utilizes a variety of electronic and other surveillance equipment in a security operations control center to monitor facilities and critical infrastructure, authenticate access to off-site facilities and dispatch security and other emergency personnel; and performs related duties as assigned.
Desired Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of
Modern security methods, techniques and procedures; basic methods, techniques, procedures and practices of criminal investigations; uses and operations of computers and automated systems as they apply to assigned areas of responsibility; safety practices, safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work; first aid and CPR; customer service practices and procedures.
Ability to
Learn and apply District policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols relating to the protection and security of District/SNWA/SNWS/Springs Preserve employees, buildings, facilities and infrastructure; learn and operate computers, automated systems and surveillance equipment with a high degree of proficiency; carry out observation and surveillance responsibilities with required vigilance and alertness to potential threats; react quickly and appropriately in emergencies and regarding suspicious situations and potential threats to people and property; exercise sound independent judgment and initiative in a wide variety of situations within established guidelines; identify and initiate effective courses of action to complete assigned responsibilities; prepare clear, concise and accurate records and reports; work effectively and courteously with all levels of management, supervisors, staff, visitors, officials of other agencies, emergency personnel and others encountered in the course of work.
Training and Experience
Skills
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent, and:
Security Officer I: Two years of responsible police, security, criminal investigation or closely related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Security Officer II - A Security Officer I may be considered for advancement to Security Officer II after demonstrating proficiency to perform the full range of duties of the higher-level class.
Proficiency criteria and the process for demonstrating performance at the levels established in the criteria are established jointly by the hiring authorities and the Director, Human Resources and are described in a separate document.
Typically, a Security Officer I is expected to be capable of meeting the proficiency criteria within a 6 to 18 month period, depending on the individual's prior experience and progression in performing the full range of Security Officer II duties described in the established criteria.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements;
A valid Nevada driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance policy.
A current CPR and basic first aid certificate and certificate for the use of AED equipment, issued by a District-approved agency.
Completion of the AWWA Distribution Operator Grade 1 course is required within one year of employment.
Basic Certification for OCAT and PATH from a firm providing Police Officer Standard Training (POST).
Completion of the Certified Protection Officer course provided by the International Foundation for Protection Officers is required within two years of employment.
