The primary responsibility of the court security screener is to greet and screen all persons coming through the public entrance of the courthouse. It is the screener’s daily responsibility to inspect and operate all screening equipment. Screening equipment includes and may not be limited to an x-ray device, a metal-detecting walk-through doorway (magnetometer) and a hand-held wand. Screening consists of scans of individual persons and x-ray machine scans of purses, briefcases, and packages (personal and deliveries). Additional physical screening may be required. The screener may be required to deny entrance to the courthouse in the event that a person does not cooperate with the security screening procedures. This position may be required to respond to emergency calls for security assistance within the courthouse and assists in restraining disruptive persons.

- Extensive periods of time are spent standing and visually monitoring the entrance of the court house while screening all persons who arrive at the public entrance for weapons or contraband.
- Perform maintenance checks of the security screening equipment each day, including but not limited to an x-ray device, a metal-detecting walk-thru device (magnetometer) and a hand-held wand.
- Perform a pat-down search when visual and device inspections do not/cannot provide an adequate level of security screening. Confiscate any weapons, potential weapons, and Provide information on court schedules and proceedings to interested parties.
- Disseminate information received from various sources to concerned parties.
- Dispatch and respond to deputies and other agencies via radio and other communication systems with clear and concise information.
- Assist with lost and found items.
- Must be able to cooperatively work with coworkers and general public.
- Must be able to maintain a constant state of awareness and act in a safe manner.
- Must have the ability to follow directives and policies of the agency.
- Participate in training to gain knowledge, skills, and technical expertise to perform tasks with minimal supervision.

Required Skills, Abilities, And/or Working Knowledge
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to pass a thorough criminal background screening.
- Ability to wear body armor/vest throughout shift.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, in person and by telephone.
- Properly interpret, understand and make decisions in accordance with laws, regulations and policies.
- Maintain confidentiality of information encountered in work activities at all times

Equipment: Requires the ability to use personal computer, keyboard, telephone, and external devices. Requires the ability to use a variety of other office equipment such as fax, copier, scanner, and external computer drives. Must be able to operate multi-camera video surveillance system with pan, tilt, zoom capabilities. Must be able to monitor door control and alarm system.
Language Ability: Must be able to read, write, and comprehend basic English, rendered in formats such as instructions, technical manuals, equipment operation directions, and other materials related to the job. Must be able to write legibly so it can be understood by a reasonably intelligent adult. Must be able to speak with clarity, voice control and confidence and to articulate information to others and answer questions. Must have the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to citizens, deputies and other employees.

If using reading or prescription glasses, they must be designed to allow the clear viewing of small screens/monitors placed above the head. Must be able to differentiate between colors and shades of color. Must be able to hear and understand verbal, telephone and radio communications, as well as equipment alarms. This position may require working with a diverse group of individuals. Employee in this position may encounter stressful situations and frequent interruptions. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high and crowded conditions.
