PURPOSE:
The purpose of this policy is to establish procedures for conducting normal daily operations.
POLICY:
It is the policy of the hospital Security Department to educate and inform all officers of the Rules and Regulations pertaining to their job descriptions.
PROCEDURE:
- GENERAL:
- The rules and regulations for hospital employees also apply to the Security Officer.
- The conduct of the Security Officer will always reflect the image of the hospital.
- Security Officers will not leave a security assignment until properly relieved. If relief does not report for work, contact the security Shift Supervisor as soon as possible. The Shift Supervisor will be responsible for making sure the shift has adequate staffing should the above incident occur.
- Members of the Security Department shall not solicit contributions for any purpose.
- Security Officer shall not smoke while on duty.
- Except during break time, there will be no eating or reading (with the exception of material relating to the job), unless authorized to do so by the Security Director.
- Radios or TVs will not be allowed, except for those owned by the hospital.
- DUTIES:
- The Security Officer will report for duty at the designated time, ready for duty.
- The prescribed uniform, with no deviations, will be worn at all times.
- Hospital keys will always be properly safeguarded and only used for security business.
- At no time will physical force be used in the course of duty unless authorized by the Security Director, or unless it is necessary to protect life and property.
- The Security Officer will record all incidents. All reports, logs, etc. must have all pertinent facts:

3. When
4. Where
5. How
6. Why
7. In case of serious incident, notify the Police Department and as soon as practical, Security Director, and Hospital Administrator on-call at ext. 8004.
G. All Security Officers shall be alert to respond to conditions of theft, trespass, and vandalism, and alert for internal thefts.
H. The Security Officer shall maintain control over the parking areas. This primary function is to keep areas designated for doctors clear of employees’ and visitors’ vehicles. In the event of non-cooperation, names of employees should be taken with their State license plate number and description of vehicle. A “Notice of Parking Violation” may also be issued.
I. The Security Officer shall lock and unlock all doors according to instruction
Minimum Requirements
Education: High School Diploma preferred but not required.
Certification, Licensure: Not required.
Experience, Training, Knowledge: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to stand and move intermittently throughout the work day; must possess sight/hearing senses to adequately perform the functions of the job. May be required to lift equipment, supplies of up to fifty (50) pounds.
Working Conditions/Environmental Exposures
Environmental hazards such as chemicals, solvents, needles, needle containers, sharps, blood, body fluids, various infectious/communicable diseases, infectious medical waste, radiation, and/or radioactive materials and/or radioactive waste, proximity to moving mechanical parts. Protective clothing/equipment may be necessary.
