We pay for experience up to step 5 which is $72,508.00
Summary
The Court Security Deputy is responsible for maintaining order and security within the St. Lucie County Courthouse Complex and adjacent areas. This position ensures the safety of judicial officers, staff, visitors, and inmates while assisting in the efficient operation of judicial proceedings. Employees in this classification perform specialized law enforcement duties requiring sound judgment, professionalism, and adherence to agency policy and applicable laws.

Provides security related to judicial proceedings, responds to emergency situations, and carries out lawful orders as directed by a judge within assigned courtrooms and adjacent areas to maintain a safe and secure environment.
Maintains continuous surveillance of the courtroom during court sessions.
Inspects courtrooms and conducts security sweeps before and after each session.
Interacts, answers questions, and communicates with a wide variety of people and agencies (e.g., general public, attorneys, law enforcement, court clerks, media, Department of Juvenile Justice, Department of Corrections, families, juries, victims, and witnesses).
Maintains proficiency and qualification with weapons required for the work environment.
Monitors and responds appropriately to radio communications.
Resolves and/or de-escalates conflicts between various parties in courtrooms, waiting areas, and related facilities.
Maintains professionalism, discretion, and impartiality at all times.
Safeguards and monitors evidence in the courtroom.
Enforces applicable laws and maintains the peace within the courthouse and surrounding areas.
Provides other law enforcement and/or security-related services in and around the Courthouse Complex as directed by a supervisor.
Provides information and assistance to the public as needed.
Performs Other Related Duties As Required.
May be subject to random drug testing.
Minimum Requirements

Must pass a comprehensive background and character investigation, medical examination, drug screening, and polygraph examination; fingerprinting will be required.
Education And/Or Experience
Minimum of three (3) years of law enforcement experience, preferably within a courthouse or judicial setting.
Must have maintained prior employment in good standing with no disqualifying disciplinary history.
If applicant served in the military, an honorable discharge is required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Possession of a valid State ID or Florida driver's license and maintenance of a clean driving record are required.
Current Florida Law Enforcement Certification.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Tasks involve the intermittent performance of extremely physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, running, climbing, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of extremely heavy objects (150+ pounds), such as in the event of chasing and subduing a detainee resisting control. Tasks may involve standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
