Job Title: Security Guard
Location: ICGH Carolina Wellness Centers at Sea Level
Reports To: Facility Administrator / Director of Safety and Operations
Position Summary:
The Security Guard ensures the safety and security of all patients, staff, and visitors within the Carolina Wellness Centers at Sea Level. The role involves active monitoring, rapid response to behavioral escalations, and assistance to Med Techs and Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs) in managing patient safety on all inpatient units.
Key Responsibilities:Facility-Wide Duties:
- Patrol the interior and exterior of the facility at regular intervals.
- Monitor and manage facility surveillance systems (cameras, security feeds).
- Screen visitors and vendors at designated entrances.
- Maintain an incident log and prepare daily reports.
- Secure unauthorized areas and report suspicious behavior.
- Participate in emergency preparedness drills and safety inspections.
- Follow all HIPAA regulations and protect patient confidentiality.
Inpatient Wing-Specific Duties:
- Detox Wing:
- Monitor for acute withdrawal symptoms and support BHTs and Med Techs during high-risk detox episodes.
- Remain vigilant for contraband, especially narcotics or sharps.
- Assist with non-physical de-escalation when patients become agitated or confused.
- Escort patients to the Quiet Room or designated cool-down areas as instructed by clinical staff.
- Dual Diagnosis Wing:
- Provide support during psychiatric crises or when co-occurring symptoms impair patient judgment.
- Accompany clinical staff during patient checks when risk of violence or self-harm is present.
- Monitor patient common areas for verbal conflicts or boundary violations.
- General Residential/Aftercare Wing:
- Ensure curfew compliance and monitor exits to prevent elopement or unauthorized re-entry.
- Observe interactions in communal areas for signs of relapse, conflict, or behavioral issues.
- Support wellness checks during overnight hours.
Camera & Surveillance Duties:
- Continuously monitor live feeds from cameras throughout the campus including entrances, hallways, therapy rooms, and common areas.
- Identify and alert leadership to any blind spots or damaged camera equipment.
- Archive footage relevant to incidents and assist with incident reviews.
De-escalation and Crisis Protocols:
- Trained in CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) or similar nonviolent de-escalation techniques.
- Respond immediately to Code Grey (behavioral emergency) and Code White (medical emergency).
- Support clinical staff by creating a safe perimeter during escalations.
- When directed, assist in physical interventions only under supervision of licensed staff and in compliance with facility policy.
- Maintain a calm, authoritative presence and communicate clearly with patients to reduce agitation.
Collaboration with Med Techs & Behavioral Health Technicians:
- Provide backup during medication administration when high-risk patients are involved.
- Monitor hallways during shift changes or during high-traffic periods (e.g., mealtime, group transitions).
- Assist BHTs in enforcing quiet hours, boundaries, and unit rules in a respectful and trauma-informed manner.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in criminal justice or related field preferred.
- Prior experience in healthcare, behavioral health, or corrections preferred.
- Valid NC driver’s license; security certification preferred.
- CPI certification or ability to complete upon hire.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand or walk for long periods.
- Capacity to respond quickly and safely in emergency situations.
- Lift up to 50 lbs occasionally (for moving barriers, equipment, etc.)
Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
