Job Description: Unarmed Security Guard
Location: Sacramento Valley National Cemetery
Position Type: Full-Time / Contract
Shift: 12:00 PM – 4:00 AM (16-hour coverage rotation)
Contract Type: Federal (Firm-Fixed Price)

Position Overview
The Unarmed Security Guard is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and respectful environment at a national cemetery supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs. This role is critical in ensuring the protection of government property, visitors, and staff, while preserving the dignity and solemnity of the cemetery grounds.
All services must be performed in strict compliance with federal regulations and in alignment with the mission of the National Cemetery Administration.
Key ResponsibilitiesSecurity Operations
- Conduct routine and random patrols of cemetery grounds, facilities, and perimeter
- Monitor and control access points to prevent unauthorized entry
- Maintain continuous surveillance of buildings, monuments, and critical infrastructure
- Perform lock/unlock procedures and ensure facility security at all times
Incident Response
- Respond immediately to security incidents, disturbances, or emergencies
- Coordinate with VA Police, local law enforcement, and emergency services
- Complete and submit incident reports within 2 hours of occurrence
- Document all activities in daily activity logs
Funeral & Event Support
- Provide security presence during funeral services and ceremonial events
- Assist with traffic control and crowd management during high-visibility events
- Maintain a quiet, respectful atmosphere during interments
Visitor Assistance
- Provide professional and courteous support to visitors
- Enforce cemetery rules with discretion and respect
- Promote public trust through visible, professional conduct
Compliance & Reporting
- Follow all Post Orders and site-specific procedures
- Maintain accurate logs and documentation
- Participate in quality control and performance tracking systems (barcode patrol tracking)
- Ensure compliance with VA Directive 0730 and applicable regulations
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid California Security Guard License (BSIS Certified)
- Minimum age: 21 years old
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to pass background check
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
- Knowledge of:
- Incident reporting procedures
- Security patrol operations
- Emergency response protocols
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in:
- Federal facilities or VA environments
- Cemetery or memorial site security
- Strong communication and situational awareness skills
- Experience with patrol tracking systems and reporting tools
Work Requirements
- Maintain professional appearance and uniform standards at all times
- Carry valid ID and credentials while on duty
- Ability to:
- Walk/stand for extended periods
- Perform patrols (foot or vehicle)
- Work weekends, holidays, and extended hours
Key Personnel Structure
- On-Site Supervisor
- Minimum 4 years of security supervision experience
- Manages daily operations and guard performance
