Reports To: Sergeant

Job Location: El Paso, Texas

Hours: 40 hours per week, varying shifts, flexibility is required on evenings and weekends

FLSA status: Non-exempt

Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.

Salary: $28,000.00 Annually.

Position Summary

To provide service and information to students, employees and visitors; to enforce the rules and regulation of the U.T. System Administration pertaining to the operation and parking of vehicles on University Property; to help safeguard property of the U.T. Systems or an institution of The University of Texas System.

Statement Of Duties And Responsibilities

Provide service to students, employees and visitors.

Writes reports on incidents occurring at the University.

Checks permits on vehicles entering and parked on campus.

Directs flow of traffic and parking of cars when needed.

Issues parking permits as needed.

Issue University parking and traffic violation citations.

Ensures all personnel entering facilities are properly identified.

Patrols buildings and grounds, by foot, vehicle, bicycle and other means, to check for unauthorized subjects, fires, water leaks, and general building security, reporting all irregularities, emergencies, or suspicious activity to the University Police Office.

Ensures all personnel entering the campus are properly identified.

Issues visitor badges and maintains a log of all issued badges.

Provides directions to locate buildings and offices and other general information to visitors.

Enforces parking and traffic rules.

Monitors fire and intrusion alarm system.

Assists with setting roadblock equipment.

Maintains daily activity log.

May assist with dispatch duties.

Aids patrons with car problems and provides escort for safety reasons.

Must be available for On-Call duty.

Maintains knowledge of penal and transportation codes.

Must be able to work various shifts as assigned.

Complies with all State and University policies.

Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: No supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Required Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

and

Experience: No experience required.

Should have the physical and mental capabilities to properly carry out responsibilities and duties as a Guard/Public Safety Officer of The University of Texas System Police. Must possess a valid driver's license and be eligible to drive a University owned and/or leased motor vehicle. Must successfully pass a thorough background investigation. Must be able to provide creditable testimony in a court of law. Must read, write, speak and understand the English language. Must be able to operate a hand held radio.

Special Conditions: Successful candidate will undergo an extensive background and reference check and will be given a conditional offer of employment pending the outcome of background check.

About The UTEP Police Department

The University Police Department is dedicated to meeting goals and objectives of the University through application of effective law enforcement, efficient campus security, and courteous service. The Police Department is charged with ensuring that faculty, staff and students enjoy a safe place in which to teach, work and study. The department is committed to enforcement of local and state laws as well as seeing that institutional rules and regulations are adhered to for the peace and safety of all.

Additional responsibilities include the prevention, detection, and investigation of criminal offenses committed within the jurisdiction of the University of Texas, and the apprehension and prosecution of criminal offenders where provided for by law. Under Texas Law, Officers have authority and responsibility to investigate all crimes occurring on property owned or controlled by the university. Our officers respond to accidents and medical emergencies. Furthermore, noncommissioned Public Safety Officers serve as a major component in achieving campus safety and provide multiple services to the University Community.
