All About Being a Security Ambassador
Block by Block is looking for the friendliest people, who enjoy working in the security industry or related fields. If you love interacting with people in your current environment, but are looking for more variety in your assignments this might be the job for you!
Security Ambassadors are often like the local guardians for good in Gainesville, FL and the other communities we serve because they:
· Professionally represent not only us, but our customer – Downtown Gainesville. Ambassadors are highly visible and operate in some of most important fish bowls.
· Help the public see that the neighborhoods we serve are safe, leading to more return visits and sharing positive experiences.
· Take ownership of every person’s experience in Downtown Gainesville, whether it’s a visitor, resident, worker or member of the street population, we want to enhance their experience.
· Take action when something out of the ordinary happens, which may require police, fire, EMS or social service outreach professionals.
As a Security Ambassador in Austin, no two days are ever the same, but a typical day will likely include the following responsibilities:
Be Visible, and Be Really Friendly: Our job is to be a visible presence and create continual friendly interactions with the people in the public space we serve to be a reassuring, helpful presence.
Patrol and Deter: You’ll move through your assigned zone on foot, bike or vehicle, maintaining a visible presence to deter unwanted activity and engage in socially unacceptable behaviors. Of course, this means plenty of walking and standing.
Proactively Address Issues Courteously: We want you to use the training you’ll be provided to interact with socially unacceptable behaviors, such as panhandling and disruptive behaviors, in a respectful way.
Ongoing Reporting: Be comfortable using our simple smart phone app to report normal activities and incidents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Provides a high level of visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of tasks SUCH AS PAROLING, WATCHFULNESS, AND BEING A DETERRENT TO CRIME and to improve the overall appearance of the service district they are assigned to.
· OBSERVE AND REPORT – while on patrol be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and behaviors and report via two-way radios. Must be able to articulate an accurate description of persons, vehicles, and other similar identifiers.
· HOSPITALITY AND CUSTOMER SERVICE – While on patrol will go out of the way to actively acknowledge and greet pedestrians and say "hello" with a friendly greeting or identify visitors in order to provide directions, information, city information or recommendations to restaurants, entertainment or local attractions.
- REPORTING – must be able to provide written reports of broken infrastructure, such as: broken light fixtures, tree wells, broken bricks or unsteady bricks on sidewalks, graffiti on private property, and provide a basic daily report of accomplishments and tasks completed.
- PROFESSIONALISM – Must maintain a positive, professional environment in full compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures and overall Block by Block standards of expected professionalism. - PHYSICAL ABILITIES –
· Must have the physical capacity to TRAVERSE continuously during an eight-hour shift, with normal breaks (two fifteen minutes, and one thirty-minute meal break).
· Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions with provided inclement weather gear WITH PROVIDED GEAR AND WARM WEATHER GEAR
- COMMUNICATION – Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports.
