Position Overview: The Detention/Correctional Officer will be responsible for the monitoring, security, and safety of detainees in the detention center. This role maintains the security of the facility, monitors the activities of detainees, and provides assistance to detainees, detention officers, and other staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitors detainee activities, supervise living areas and other areas of the facility, and record any unusual activity
- Enforces all facility rules and regulations, document any violations, and take appropriate disciplinary action
- Searches detainees and their possessions for contraband
- Supervises detainees during meal times and other daily activities
- Assists in the intake of new detainees and the release of detainees from the facility
- Ensures the safety of detainees, staff, and visitors at all times
- Prepares reports on detainee behavior and activities
- Participates in emergency response procedures
- Ensures that all detainees are treated fairly and humanely in accordance with the law and regulations.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills:
- Must possess a High school diploma or GED
- Must possess at least one (1) year of relevant detention, military, or private security experience
- Must possess TX Security Officer License
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug test
- Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Must be able to remain calm and professional in stressful situations
- Must be physically fit and able to handle potentially dangerous situations
Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
Physical Demands: The physical demands listed below, though not fully inclusive, are that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. The employee is frequently required to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
