- Protecting People and Property: The security officer must act as a visible deterrent to crime and protect individuals, buildings and assets from theft, damage, or unauthorized access.
- Access Control: The security officer must monitor control entry and exit points, verify credentials, and ensure only authorized personnel or visitors are allowed on the premises.
- Monitoring and Surveillance: The security officer must monitor surveillance cameras, alarms and other security systems to detect potential threats and respond appropriately.
- Patrolling and Inspections: The security officer must regularly patrol assigned areas, inspect buildings and equipment, and identify potential safety hazards.
- Responding to Incidents: The security officer must be trained to respond to emergencies, such as accidents, medical issues, or security breaches, and take appropriate action.
- Reporting and Documentation: The security officer must maintain detailed logs of their activities, document incidents, and write reports for management or law enforcement.
- Enforcing Rules and Regulations: The security officer must enforce company policies, security protocols and legal regulations.
- Providing Customer Service: In many settings, the security officer will interact with the public and provide assistance to visitors and employees, requiring strong communication and customer service skills.
