From routine perimeter and building checks to responding promptly to emergency situations, our Security Officers find themselves always on the move! We are currently on the hunt for dependable individuals to add to our Security team.
The Indianapolis Zoo's Security team works diligently to provide a safe and secure environment for our guests, volunteers, employees, animals, and plants. On a year-round 24/7 basis, full-time Security Officers conduct internal and external checks, investigate unusual situations, assist guests in times of need, and ensure Zoo procedures are followed. This position requires excellent people skills, as our Security Officers interact with Zoo employees, guests, and volunteers daily.
Ideal candidates are committed to advancing the Zoo's mission to protect nature and inspire people to care for our world. Past work experience in security or extensive customer service experience is strongly desired. Open availability along with working weekends, evenings, and holidays are a requirement.
What You'll Do
- Base Operation: Monitor surveillance equipment, weather computer, zoo access, and radio traffic. Answer telephone calls and pages. Maintain control of radios, keys, packages, and vehicles.
- Patrol: Monitors Zoo and Gardens grounds, parking lots, service roads and buildings. Respond to staff and guest concerns and report safety concerns on a timely basis.
- First aid: Make appropriate decisions in the medical assistance of staff, guests, and volunteers.
- Reports: Ensures all reports and logs are detailed, accurate, and completed.
- Training: Demonstrate knowledge of all Security and Emergency preparedness procedures. Must become certified as a First Responder and qualify for the emergency animal escape weapons team.
- Customer Service: Exhibit dependability, initiative, positive attitude, verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, leadership, and teamwork.
- Problem solving and judgment: Recognize problems as they occur and contribute to their resolution. Make good decisions using sound judgment
What We're Looking For
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED required
- Have a valid Indiana Driver's License and insurable by Indianapolis Zoo's insurance.
- Professional attitude and interpersonal skills.
- Interact and communicate with co-workers, volunteers, and guests in a professional and courteous manner.
Additional Information
- This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, position that requires flexibility to work varying shifts and schedules.
- Frequent exposure to outdoor environmental conditions, which include inclement weather, cold and hot temperatures, and humidity.
