Detailed Description
The Security Rover at Newfields is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for all visitors, staff, and exhibits. This includes monitoring the premises, helping and providing services as requested, and conducting thorough safety inspections. The officer will also manage access points, perform security screenings, and patrol all public areas to ensure the protection of patrons and artworks. In addition, the role requires staying informed on all museum policies and procedures, handling sensitive information with discretion, and responding effectively to emergencies. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism, vigilance, and the ability to handle high-stress situations calmly.
Responsibilities
- Monitor premises to prevent and address harmful activities, ensuring the execution of security and safety responsibilities
- Conduct AM unlocks (detailed checks of buildings) to ensure optimal security measures are maintained
- Provide services upon request, including unlocking doors, escorting guests, and guests
- Aid visitors with inquiries and uphold museum regulations, maintaining a professional and service-focused representation of the Museum and its security team
- Perform comprehensive safety inspections throughout the campus.
- At times, help with loading dock duties, including package reception and the registration of guests and contractors, following established protocols
- Oversee the GT Service Gate, ensuring proper entry checks, receipt of deliveries, and contractor admittance
- Patrol all public areas, including galleries, Lilly House, Gardens, and Fairbanks Park, to observe patrons and artworks, preventing any potential harm or damage
- Keep current on policies, procedures, and program changes
- Review and respond to all emails within 24 hours
- Ability to document both injury-related and non-injury incidents
- Perform security screening at campus and building entry points and manage the entry of guests via metal detectors and bag checks to ensure prohibited items remain off campus
- Perform high-activity bag checks during events for multiple hours per shift
- Staff in this position may become aware of private, personal, and sensitive information that should not and cannot be shared with others unless cleared through the Management
- Implement appropriate emergency responses to fire, safety, and access procedures (door alarms, Fike panels, condensation)
- Ability to react appropriately in emergency and high-stress situations
- Interaction with individuals who are not guests, i.e., (homeless, transient, disgruntled guests). In a non-aggressive manner to de-escalate potential threats.
- Notify supervisors and control room operators of any issues with vehicle and golf cart maintenance
- Any disputes or issues involving guests, employees, or other parties should be reported promptly to a supervisor.
- Supervisor must be contacted upon any arguments or concerns between you, guests, employees, or non-guests
- Routine efficiency checks will be conducted periodically with a supervisor
- Punctual and adaptable to schedule changes to ensure smooth daily operations
- Participate and complete the required courses provided through Newfields University
- During periods of severe weather, building maintenance, or holidays, essential security personnel must be present at work

- Valid Indiana Driver’s License. All Newfields employees must possess a valid Indiana driver’s license to drive any of the Newfields vehicles
- Proficiency in using military time to fulfill job responsibilities is also required
- Adaptable in revising tactics and approaches in response to evolving situations, new intelligence, or new hazards.
Education And/or Experience
- Applicants must have a high school diploma/GED equivalent
- Ability to complete the required Security training for the position
- Proficiency in the use of computer programs such as Microsoft Office (Word/Outlook/Excel)
