Job Summary:
The Security Officer will help maintain a safe, respectful, and stable environment at our temporary housing facility. As part of our team, you will be the visible face of safety for residents, staff, and guests. You must be proactive, alert, and committed to service.
Responsibilities:
- Patrol interior and exterior areas of the shelter with high visibility.
- Monitor entrances/exits to ensure only authorized individuals enter.
- Engage with residents and guests respectfully, enforce site rules in a fair manner.
- Detect and respond to unusual activities, disturbances, or safety hazards using de-escalation techniques.
- Collaborate with case managers, outreach staff, and facility leadership to support site operations.
- Maintain accurate logs of daily activities, incidents, and observations.
- Keep communication open via radio or other devices to report issues or call for support.
- Follow all safety and security procedures defined by the organization.
Qualifications:
- Valid Guard Card.
- Previous security, shelter, or social-services experience preferred.
- Strong observational skills and ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Excellent verbal communication and ability to treat people with dignity and respect.
- Comfortable working with individuals experiencing homelessness, mental-health challenges, or substance-use issues.
- Reliable attendance and willingness to work shifts (including evenings, nights, weekends, or holidays) if required.
Schedule & Environment:
- All shifts available.
- Work involves standing, walking, and being alert for extended periods.
- Site may be busy, dynamic, with quick response needed at times.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
