Position Summary
Security Guards provide a safe environment for staff and customers. The security guard supports compliance by enforcing site rules governing restricted areas, camera coverage protocols, and entry procedures. This role is responsible for documenting all security related incidents thoroughly. Typical duties include access control, surveillance monitoring, incident response, and de-escalation.
Key Responsibilities
Access Control & Screening
- Monitor entry points; ensure only authorized individuals enter restricted areas.
- Support ID verification/entry flow and maintain orderly lines, especially during peak hours.
Surveillance Awareness & Patrol
- Maintain awareness of camera locations/coverage and respond to observed risks (without leaving post improperly).
- Conduct perimeter checks and interior patrols per SOP.
- Monitor and safeguard retail staff conducting curbside pickup operations.
De-escalation & Incident Response
- De-escalate conflicts professionally, requesting assistance from management/law enforcement when necessary.
- Respond to emergencies (medical events, threats, theft attempts) and follow escalation protocols. Training topics commonly emphasized for dispensary security include compliance awareness, de-escalation, ID verification/entry controls.
Documentation & Reporting
- Write clear incident reports with timelines, actions taken, and witnesses.
- Preserve evidence and maintain chain-of-custody steps per policy when applicable.
Cash/High-Value Procedures
- Support cash movement procedures as assigned including escort duties and safe room access rules. Cash movement best practices often require controlled access and multi-person procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Prior security, loss prevention, or military/law enforcement experience preferred.
- Calm under stress, strong interpersonal skills, able to enforce rules respectfully.
- Ability to write detailed, objective reports.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in high-cash retail environments (jewelry, bars, cannabis, etc.).
Physical & Scheduling Requirements
- Stand/walk for long periods
- Ability to respond quickly to incidents.
- Evenings/weekends/holidays.
Typical Hours of operations
Monday - Sunday 10:00am - 9:00pm CST
Typical Shift Structure (subject to change based on schedule, availability, and business needs)
Day Shift: 9:00am - 4:00pm CST
Night Shift: 3:00pm - 10:00pm CST
