Under the overall command of the Chief of Security, the Security Officers are required to perform armed security functions and report directly to the Security Sergeant. United Nations security officers function as agents of the Secretary-General and are authorized to preserve order and to protect persons on all United Nations premises, including temporary premises, and to protect the property of the United Nations.
